On top of the Clock Tower at Magic Academy City Lindis.

Two phantom beasts, one resembling a small golem and the other a cat, gazed upon the scene unfolding below.

A magic tower at the heart of Lindis. And the grotesque beasts that were attacking it.

『But that mage has given us quite an unreasonable task, hasn’t she?』

Tirnanog said, squinting his eyes beneath his armor. The task that the mage Dolores Wynt had entrusted to Tirnanog and Palug was the extermination of the fallen angels.

And not just in one place.

They had to stop those beasts from infesting the magic towers throughout the entire continent.

“It can’t be helped. Normal humans can’t defend against something like that.”

Palug gazed at a distant magic tower. The skin of the beasts, which resembled large insects or cows, was covered in reddish-brown rust.

『Cat, are they of your kind?』

“They were, yes. That child, she was a very kind angel. Much kinder than me.”

Palug quietly shed tears. How difficult it must have been, how unwilling she must have felt. Palug could feel her regrets as if they were her own.

Tirnanog pretended not to notice her demeanor and continued speaking.

『But, she is not as strong as you, is she?』

“Originally, no.”

『Oh. Then what about now?』

“She seems to have fused with the souls of the Abaddon and have become quite the troublesome enemy.”

Palug stared at the enemies with eyes full of hatred. Gray spheres were spilling and falling out of the abdomen of those beastly insects.

“As expected, they have started laying eggs after all. Their nature seem closer to that of Abaddon, the Demon Locust, than that of the Angel of Starvation. If that is the case, they will multiply endlessly. They might even cover all the space between the heaven and the earth.”

『So we have to keep crushing them endlessly. It’s infuriating.』

“… This battle will be long and exhausting. If it gets too much for you, retreat.”

Palug glanced at Tirnanog.

『Hah, what’s the point of saying that now?』

“W-What!? Even though I was just trying to be considerate!?”

Palug retorted, tapping Tirnanog on the back of his head. Tirnanog swatted her arm away irritably.

『If I borrow your words, I have long since dedicated my life to Erica. It’s fine if I perish now. The promises of the past have been more than fulfilled, I am content.』

“Oh, come on! You should say that kind of thing in your own words.”

『Hmph, as if I care.』

Tirnanog laughed it off cheerfully.

『Are you sure about yourself? Your life that you painstakingly preserved might end.』

“I, too, have long taken that into account. There is no hesitation.”

From the sphere laid on the ground, small baby beasts continued to crawl out. While feeding on the earth’s vitality, they continued to grow. As the energy from the leylines continued to be absorbed, the land shook as if screaming in agony.

“Look. They have already started devouring the earth immediately after being born.”

『They must be hungry. If left alone, they will devour this land completely.』

As the young creatures grew, they began to transform into two different types: small specimens with wings and large specimens without wings.

『Shall we go?』

“Yes. Then I will take care of the mother and the winged ones, and you handle the big ones.”

『I will deal with them. They won’t grow as big as me.』

“Probably not. Well then, if they continue like this, even if we defeat the vampires, this continent will become a wasteland. We must be careful … Let’s quickly exterminate the pests here and move on to the next tower.”

『Right.』

The two phantom beasts leaned forward, prepared to leap into the air. At the moment they were about to head into danger, their gazes unexpectedly met.

『Cat.』

“What is it? I am in a rush.”

『This might be the last time, for both you and me.』

“Good grief, indeed, it might be our last time.”

Tirnanog grinned, baring his fangs. Palug smiled in the same way.

“Oh, it’s a shame that the last face I get to see is that of someone like you.”

『Absolutely. Isn’t it our common desire to see Erica for one last time? And you are probably pining for the prince too, right?』

“I don’t even have a face to meet him. At least by protecting the country he rules would rule … Kyaah!”

Palug screamed as she was suddenly picked up from behind along with Tírnanóg.

“Tir! Palug! I am glad, I finally found you …”

It was Erica who lifted them up. Behind her, Klaus Hafan stood quietly like a shadow.

『Erica! What happened!』

“Oh my, what’s wrong, Erica? Don’t you have something to do? Is it okay to come here?”

“We are about to go to our destination through that magic tower.”

Erika looked at the tower infested with beasts.

『Hoh! What did that gloomy mage ask you to do?』

“Stars. Relocate to the observatory overlooking both northern and southern continents and rain starts all over the continents.”

Erica said in a casual tone, as if she were just about to go shopping in Knot Reed. Tirnanog and Palug were momentarily taken aback before bursting into laughter.

『Kuhahaahaha, I am sure the ringleader of those monsters is in for quite the surprise!』

“Ooh, that sounds exciting~! Go for it, Erica! Don’t hold back!”

“Yes. I am going to completely ruin the Mad King’s plan while everyone is still safe. So, you two, don’t lose either.”

Erica hugged Tirnanog and Palug tightly.

“Promise? I really, really love you both.”

Erica’s body trembled slightly as she said so. While being hugged by her, Tirnanog and Palug exchanged glances.

『Fumu! Leave it to me. I am always strong.』

“Yes, yes, it will be over in no time. Right? So Erica, do your best, okay?”

“Yes, of course. Well then, it’s about time … we have to go there.”

Several beasts were eating away at the tower, and winged creatures filled the sky.

Some of the winged creatures bared their fangs against the barrier protecting the academy, and started tampering with it.

『Alright, I will carry you two! Erica, my armor!』

Tirnanog sprang out from Erica’s arm. Although he had long been allowed to release his own restraints, Tirnanog still preferred to have Erica release them. When Erica chanted the password, he shed the armor serving as his restraints and transformed into his dragon form.

“That’s right. Tir, take this.”

『Got it!』

Erica took out several wands from her leather bag. She rhythmically tossed the remaining offensive wands into Tirnanog’s mouth.

With the preparations complete, Erica met Klaus’ gaze.

“Now, Klaus-sama, please ride on Tir’s back too!”

When Erica said so, Klaus closed his eyes with a contented smile.

“Um … what is the matter?”

“I just thought you always choose methods I never even imagine.”

“Is that so?”

“Don’t worry about it”

Erica and Klaus climbed on Tirnanog’s back.

“I just found out for the first time that the cat is an angel. It is such a fresh knowledge. I have no recollection of anything like it at all.”

Klaus looked at Palug.

“Hehe. You have always been very strong since you were a boy. You seem even stronger now.”

『Yes, it’s hard to imagine everything that transpired in such a short time … With that power, you must protect Erica without fail, okay?』

“Yes … I will definitely protect her this time.”

Tirnanog and Palug jumped out of the clock tower simultaneously.

While falling, Palug transformed with a twirl. With arms clad in flames and a halo covering her back, the angelic beast, shining like the sun, landed without a sound.

Tirnanog also continued to enlarge his body while falling.

Even larger than he was at the ruins, even larger than at the All Souls Day. The black dragon, with a magnificent appearance as if piercing the sky, landed with a rumble.

“Well then, the pests are in the way. Let’s clean them up to cheer things up, shall we?”

“Thank you, Palug!”

“You are welcome, my master. This is a cheap service, isn’t it?”

Palug concentrated power in her lion’s palm and looked at Tirnanog. Tirnanog nodded to her and put strength into his hind legs.

『Well then, let’s go … !!』

“Wait, Tir, in this state, could it be that—”

『Hahaha! I can jump you know?』

The moment Tirnanog kicked the ground, Erica and Klaus let out a silent scream as countless bolts of lightning fell all over Lindis.

Amidst the light and thunder, a wingless, giant, black dragon leaped across the sky.

Eristol: I literally teared up at Tir and Palug’s preparation to bid farewell, glad they got to see Erica off.

  1. Thank you for the quick updates!
I also felt a little teary during this chapter. I really hope Tir and Palug enjoy life lazing around and eating good food for a long time even after this mess.
