New story! Tsubaki is sick so Liz in on break until she’s healthy again. On the meantime, I want to translate a short-ish series. And also while waiting for Shini Yasui’s raw to be updated. This is a fresh uptake on the ‘engagement cancellation’ trope. You’ll see why in the later chapters. I hope you will enjoy this series!

To Eugene, his fiancée Alicia has been the source of his inferiority complex from the very first time they met.
Her beautiful standing posture, her wise looks and her intelligence that shone through beneath her baby-face.
A girl whose eyes were akin to the purple flower demilicia, silver hair reminiscent of the moon shining in the clear night sky, as distant as a fairy and as pale as a ghost. At that time, Eugene was certainly fascinated by her.
Everything about her was the exact opposite of himself; gender, hair color, and even eye color.
As if the girl existed just for him.
It was only natural that the young Eugene was captivated by her.
The son of a Marquis and the daughter of an Earl.
Some might say that the Marquis was a bit too ambitious to tie the two people together from a very young age.
Childhood betrothal is something one does when they don’t want to let the other party get away. And this engagement was not something proposed by the Earl’s family, but by Eugene’s.
A childhood betrothal with a lower-ranked family.
The Marquis had pushed through with the engagement, leaving no time for others to examine the other party.
The Earl family held no particular political power.
They had no special technology, know-how, or even specialty products in the land they govern.
Of course, the lack of minus could also be said as a big plus.
But, that also means the Marquis found the girl herself valuable to that extent.
At this point, no one doubted that she would be a rare kind of genius.
What about him then?
At the very least, the Marquis was anxious and equally expectant of him, enough that he went to the trouble of getting Eugene engaged to the girl.
Thinking so, Eugene quietly looked down.
—He really was a child.

“Don’t embarrass me.”
She accepted the engagement with such words.
Perhaps because of his pride as a child, he was hurt by that line.
But there was a natural difference between them.
He could admit that now.
The exchange with his fiancée afterwards only consisted of hurtful words for Eugene.
Alicia and Eugene were more like an educator and her poor student rather than prospective spouses.
To date, there has been no change.
Is he the one who did not try to get to know her?
Or—
Eugene shook his head.
It was over.
The past is irreparable.
Their distance had been fixed.
And the change he would request after this would not serve to get closer to her, but to further their distance.
Please, he bowed his head to his fiancée who was sitting in front of him.
While holding the hand of his precious someone beside him, he begged sincerely.
Even though his pathetic self could only do that, there was still someone who would squeeze his hand back in support.
Eugene bit his lips and spun his words.
“I wish to break our engagement.”
And that’s it for the prologue! Next we will have Alicia’s point of view. And although the prologue is in Eugene’s POV, the main character is still Alicia.
There is no fixed schedule for this. But I’ll try to release a chapter per week as per usual.
Demilicia is a fictional flower for the lore in this story.

What’s to understand? She has looked down on him, even as children – is there any other way to interpret “don’t embarrass me”? Poor Eugene, I hope he finds happiness after breaking it off with her…
